I'm thinking about getting a new car. Two of the cars i have been looking at are a 02 honda civic or a 01 mazda protege. Both have moonroofs, the mazda is an automatic and the honda is a 5 speed. I've driven stick a few times but I am not very good at it yet (I'm sure i will be over time). The honda has about 10,000 more miles on it and is $9,700 and the mazda is $7,400. The mazda also has fancy tires that can be very expensive to replace and an bix exhaust system it looks more sporty (and rides a bit louder and rougher than the civic). Since the last car I had was a 96 taurus filled with mechanial problems I'm look for a very reliable car that will last more than a couple years and not fall apart and be very costly (dreaming aren't i?)
I was just wondering if anyone has had either of these cars,or has any advice.

The Civic would probably be your best choice. It has more miles but would still probably last longer. It also should run longer with less issues, and less money spent on repairs compared to the Protege.

I have known many, many people who have kept thier Civic's well over 200K miles, and the only person I know that had a protege got rid of it with 90K miles becuase he was putting way more money into it than he wanted to.

GOod Luck! Another option worth checking out is the Toyota Corolla, better reliability than the Mazda, and pretty equal if not better than Honda.

as the owner of an 05 civic and a 91 mazda mx-6 gt i had alot more problems with the civic with alot less miles than i did the whole time i owned the mazda. when i sold the civic-great resale it had 40,000 miles and when i sold the mazda it had 250,000 miles. i bought both cars new.

Get them checked out to make sure they are both in good condition. If the Mazda is in good shape get it. Less miles and cheaper. The Protege is a solid vehicle. They will run forever. Never had any problems until some drunk ran a red light and hit it. Had 115k miles.

frequently, Mazda 3s are extra exciting tochronic, at the same time as Civics have a tendency to be extra advantageous equipped. in case you reside in a community that salts roads in wintry climate, i might verify rust on the two, yet quite the Mazda. look interior the wheel wells, specifically. Barring that, they're the two outstanding vehicles. i might verify records and upkeep on the two, choose which i assumed became interior the final shape and merely appeared extra appropriate to me, then take it to a mechanic for an extremely final, pre-purchase inspection.

Civics are more reliable. The Protege is notorious for having undercarriage components trouble
